Basia Diagne

Basia Diagne is a visual storyteller and researcher drawing upon the medium of photography to explore the multi-faceted nature of human experience, and the nuances of identity, kinship & spirituality. Her research, practice and discourse centers around art-science, critical ethnography and cosmologies of healing, of which the intersections of these interests have culminated in Sago Journal,  a living digital repository, journal, and archive chronicling lineages of healing through the power of storytelling and visual culture.

Grounded in a de-colonial praxis of narrative reclamation, Sago Journal amalgamates at the intersection of two essential axes: the archive and the journal. Through archival research, Sago Journal delves into the past as a profound étude, allowing for critical reflections on historical documentation of healing rituals, practices, and belief systems. Simultaneously, the journal engages in the dynamic practice of live archiving contemporary global anthropologies of health, acknowledging the living nature of healing traditions and their evolution over time.
